It goes further than a skin. The dials, the widgets and the layout are configurable too, so the app can be set up around the systems a particular class of vessel actually carries and the way its owners use them — rather than shipping one fixed arrangement to everybody.
That suits three kinds of customer in particular. Yacht builders hand over a branded app at commissioning, as part of the vessel rather than as a third-party add-on. Biometric authentication (Face ID / Touch ID) protects access to your vessel data. The app connects locally over WiFi when aboard, or via a secure cloud proxy when remote. Vessel data is cached on the device only to keep the display responsive over a poor link; it is held in the app's own private storage and credentials sit in the device keychain. No advertising SDKs, no tracking, no personal data shared with third parties.
